This is a nice cast iron example of the classic Mechanical bank. A little worn, but everything seems original.

  • Fact 2: The term "Uncle Sam" was coined by meat-packer Samuel Wilson
  • Fact 3: It was a joking reference to the "U.S" stamp on crates of military rations
  • Fact 4: Most mechanical banks performed some sort of action when a coin was inserted, this in an attempt to make saving fun.
  • Fact 5: The iconic image of Uncle Sam stems from a 1917 recruitment poster by J.M. Flagg. Flagg used his own face for Uncle Sam, while the pose was provided by veteran Walter Botts.
