Facts[]

  • Fact 1: Though Rembrandt was a popular and successful artist in his day, he spent vast amounts of money on art for his own collection and was never considered wealthy.
  • Fact 2: Some experts believe that Rembrandt was stereo blind, which may have aided him in flattening 2D images for paintings and etchings.
  • Fact 3: Rembrandt's only seascape painting, "The Storm on the Sea of Galilee", was stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in a 1990 art heist and has never been found.
  • Fact 4: Rembrandt produced etchings almost every year of his career, from 1626 to 1660, when he was forced to sell his printing press and abandon etchings as a medium.
  • Fact 5: As a teacher, Rembrandt encouraged his students to copy his style, which makes modern-day authentication of Rembrandt originals difficult.
