  • Fact 1: The Winchester repeating rifle became known as "the gun that won the west" for its role in settling the western United States.
  • Fact 2: The Winchester Repeating Arms Company was headed by Oliver Winchester, who supervised the development of nearly all the various Winchester rifles.
  • Fact 3: The Winchester rifle, particularly the model-1892, became legendary through its role in western films.
  • Fact 4: Theodore Roosevelt hunted with an engraved 1876 Winchester rifle, and one was found in the possession of the Native American Geronimo after his surrender in 1886.
  • Fact 5: Oliver's daughter-in-law, Sarah Winchester, built the mansion now known as the Winchester Mystery House to confuse spirits seeking revenge on her family.
